Hyterm\u00e4 – the Legacy of Romu-Heikki<\/h1>\n

Hyterm\u00e4 islands in Kerim\u00e4ki (Puruvesi, Lake Saimaa) are one of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit in Lake Saimaa.<\/p>\n

Hyterm\u00e4 nature reserve and museum islands are located about 7 km from the centre of Kerim\u00e4ki towards H\u00e4lv\u00e4. Hyterm\u00e4 was declared a protected nature area in the year 1931, and the fact that is has survived almost completely in its natural state is all down to an ex-rural police chief\u00a0 Heikki V\u00e4yrynen (1916-1940), a.k.a. Romu-Heikki, and his wife.<\/p>\n

The islands have a one-of-a-kind collection of art made from rocks, and easily walked nature paths. Hyterm\u00e4 can only be reached by boat which you can rent and then row the 400m to the island. Once there you will also find a wonderful sandy beach and a pier.<\/p>\n

Hyterm\u00e4 is situated 7 km from the centre of Kerim\u00e4ki (Savonlinna-Kerim\u00e4ki 23 km), address: H\u00e4lv\u00e4nsaarentie 80, Kerim\u00e4ki.<\/p>\n
