The great Italian gourmand, master composer, and playboy Giacomo Puccini was known to indulge in escargots with herb-garlic butter, accompanied by fresh focaccia and a sip of crisp white wine, at his beloved home in Tuscany with his wife, Elvira.
Puccini’s operas conquered the grandest opera stages, and at the turn of the century, he was undoubtedly the most popular opera composer. His final opera, the timeless classic Turandot, will be performed at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in summer 2025.
