Kesälahti Heritage Museum invites you to explore harvest traditions and rural life

To mark the Saimaa Harvest Festival, the Kesälahti Local Heritage Museum will host a two-day “From Field to Table” tradition celebration on Friday, September 12, and Saturday, September 13. The event offers a glimpse into historical food production and everyday rural life through the museum’s rich collection, heritage stories, and unique atmosphere.

On Friday, guided tours will introduce visitors to old farming and cooking practices, tools, and the rhythm of life in the past. There will also be traditional games and picnic moments with a nostalgic twist. In collaboration with the Martha Organization, a Karelian pasty workshop is planned, offering the chance to try your hand at this beloved baking tradition. This day is especially well suited for youth and school groups.

On Saturday, in addition to museum tours, visitors can enjoy a warm soup lunch prepared by the Marthas. The day will culminate in the beloved Huttujuhla celebration inside the 300-year-old Savutupa (traditional smoke cabin), where we’ll share uuvishuttu (a traditional porridge) and enjoy an evening of stories, food, and shared heritage.

The full program will be announced soon!
