Riihisaari guided tour for groups in English!
During the tour, we will walk through the museum’s main exhibition together and hear about the history, culture and nature of the Lake Saimaa area. We will learn how people have moved around on the vast waters of the lake over the centuries. We will also get to know the endangered Saimaa ringed seal and the history of the museum building. In the summer, the tour includes a visit to those of the old museum steamships that are open to the public at the museum’s pier. We will step aboard the magnificent steam schooner s/s Salama, built in 1874, which sank and spent more than 70 years at the bottom of the lake, and the unique s/s Mikko, built in 1914, which is the only remaining tar steamer in the world.
