Saimaa Harvest Festival

The Saimaa Harvest Festival, taking place September 12-14, 2025, invites you to a weekend where the best flavors, traditions, and culture of the Savonlinna and Kitee regions come together for an unforgettable harvest celebration. 

The new weekend event highlights the region’s food traditions and seasonal delights, including Puruvesi vendace, berries, mushrooms, and local dishes. The weekend offers experiences for all ages: explore farm life on guided tours, enjoy live music, or admire craftsmanship in live demonstrations. Additionally, you can purchase local products and handmade goods as souvenirs. The detailed event program will be released in the spring.

Explore the Festival Area

The Saimaa Harvest Festival takes place across a wide area, reaching into several towns and rural municipalities in the Lake Saimaa region. Traveling by car is recommended, as it’s part of the festival experience – enjoy scenic views along winding country roads as you explore the Saimaa region. Some bus connections will also be available, with schedules published closer to the event.

The event spans across several rural and urban locations, including farms, sheep farms, historical manors, and charming courtyards. Over the course of one weekend, you can visit multiple unique sites, each telling its own story. Browse through the visitor attractions and explore the program for each location on the map below. 

Activities

During the Harvest Festival, Savonlinna and its surrounding areas will be filled with music, dance, and local stories. There’s something for everyone, offering memorable experiences for all ages. Enjoy a guided forest bathing session, learn about crayfish fishing, or hop on a tractor for a tour of life on a sheep farm.

Local Delicacies and Handicrafts

Fresh flavors from the producers’ tables and artisan creations highlight the best of the Lake Saimaa region. Farm shops offer a variety of treats and farm products directly from the producers. You’ll find flavorful pestos and preserves, beautiful sheepskin rugs, and hand-dyed wool yarns for sale.

Restaurants and Cafés

Several restaurants are taking part in the Saimaa Harvest Festival, offering special dishes and menus in honor of the event, all made with local ingredients. At least 50% of the ingredients used in each dish come from the surrounding region.

Coming with a Group?

The Saimaa Harvest Festival is happy to welcome groups of all kinds! Many venues offer group-friendly services such as meals, guided tours, and tailored experiences. There’s plenty to see and do, and you can plan your route freely.
