Canoeing and kayaking
Lake Saimaa is the biggest lake district in Europe and you’ll find abundant lake scenery and wonderful canoeing and kayaking routes.
Paddling on Lake Saimaa is an amazing experience; It has vast open lakes, rocky coves, forested shorelines and maze-like island chains. The water national parks Linnansaari and Kolovesi in the Savonlinna region look like they were made to be explored by paddling.
The city of Savonlinna is surrounded by Lake Saimaa, which means you can even go and see the city’s sights by canoe. You can book a paddling trip with a guide, or rent a canoe or a kayak for your own trips. A peaceful summer’s day and a still lake are superb reasons to go explore the shores of Lake Saimaa by a canoe or a kayak.
The most popular paddling routes are located in Linnansaari National Park and Kolovesi National Park, and in the Punkaharju region. You can paddle in these locations on your own or hire a guide in advance to join you. If you wish to paddle in Kolovesi National park by rented canoe, please remember to pre-book it from SaimaaHoliday Oravi before your trip!
During the summer, Savonlinna city centre has equipment rental for canoes and SUP-boards, for example on the shore at Spahotel Casino in the city centre.
