Saimaa is the biggest lake district in Europe and you’ll find abundant lake scenery and wonderful canoe and kayak routes.
Paddling at Lake Saimaa is amazing since it has vast open lakes, rocky coves, forested shorelines and maze-like island chains. The national parks Linnansaari and Kolovesi in the Savonlinna area look like they were made to be explored by paddling.
Savonlinna town is surrounded by Lake Saimaa, which means you can even go and see the city’s sights by canoe. You can book a paddling trip with a guide, or rent a canoe or a kayak for your own trips. A peaceful summers day and a still lake are superb reasons to go explore the shores of Lake Saimaa by canoe or kayak.
Popular paddling routes are Linnansaari National Park and Kolovesi National Park, and the area of Punkaharju. You can paddle in these locations on your own or hire a guide in advance to join you. If you wish to paddle in Kolovesi National park by rented canoe, please remember to pre-book it from SaimaaHoliday Oravi before your trip!
During the summer, Savonlinna city centre has a rental place for canoes and SUP-boards. This rental place is by the shore at Spahotel Casino in the city centre.
