How to get to Hytermä?
Hytermä nature reserve and museum islands is one of the most interesting nature attractions in the Lake Saimaa region. The three islands of Hytermä were declared protected already in 1931 as the first nature reserve in the then Mikkeli county.
Hytermä nature reserve and museum islands are located in Kerimäki, approximately half and hour’s drive from Savonlinna. The distance from the centre of Kerimäki to Hytermä is 7 km to the direction of Hälvä. The lake surrounding Hytermä is Lake Puruvesi, a part of Lake Saimaa.

Guided tour with transportation
You can order a guided tour that includes pick up from your accommodation in the Savonlinna region. During the tour, you will get information on the interesting history and nature of the region from a guide. You will also have a chance to take a peek in the old buildings and artifacts on the islands, something that is not possible without a guide. By your own car
You can also get to Hytermä by your own car. You will first arrive at Kerimäki and then continue after the roundabout between the world’s biggest wooden church and K-market (grocery store) along Hälväntie road (changes to Tavisalontie road and then to Hälvänsaarentie road) approx. 7 km. A little before where the rowing boats are kept, you can see the Hytermä islands and the Monument to work on the left side. A little less than a kilometre from here there is a turn to left at the junction to where the rowing boats are kept and where the parking spaces are.
By public transportation
You can get to Kerimäki from Savonlinna by bus (check the schedules »). The distance from the centre of Kerimäki to Hytermä is about 7 km and there is no public transportation.
