Pyhä Olavi jätti keskiajalta lähtien Savonlinnan seudulle vahvat jälkensä, joita voi seurata tänäkin päivänä elävien perinteiden ja kiehtovien matkailukohteiden kautta.
Olavinlinna seisoo yhä ylväänä kalliosaarellaan, minkä lisäksi lukuisat patsaat, kirkot, luonnonkohteet ja museoesineet kertovat Savonlinnan monipolvisesta menneisyydestä idän ja lännen rajamailla.
Pohjolan tärkeimmän pyhimyksen perinnöstä ammentava Pyhä Olavi -kokonaisuus tarjoaa monipuolisten kohteiden, tuotteiden, palveluiden ja tapahtumien muodossa runsaasti sisältöä Saimaan alueella matkaileville päiväretkistä monipäiväisiin teemamatkoihin saakka. Pyhään Olaviin eli viikinkikuningas Olavi Haraldssoniin (995–1030) pohjautuva kultti rantautui Saimaan rannoille viimeistään keskiajalla Olavinlinnan perustamisen myötä. Uusi kristillinen usko eli tosin pitkään rinnakkain luonnonuskontojen kanssa, mutta ”Olliin” tai ”Uotiin” liittyvät perinteet ovat säilyneet läpi vuosisatojen erityisen vahvoina juuri Savonlinnan ympäristössä – ehkäpä maailman ainoan Pyhän Olavin mukaan nimensä saaneen linnan ansiosta.
Nykyisin Olavista muistuttavat mm. monet patsaat ja tapahtumat, joista samalla Savonlinnan kaupunkia juhlistava Pyhän Olavin päivä 29.7. sekä heinäkuussa juostava Pyhän Olavin Maraton kantavat yhä Pohjolan suosikkipyhimyksen nimeä. Lisäksi Savonlinnan alueen monet muut mielenkiintoiset nähtävyydet, kuten Kerimäeltä löytyneet kuppikivet, vanhat kirkkomaat sekä Olavin elinaikaan rautakaudelle sijoittuvat esinelöydöt, yhdistävät seudun – monipuolista tuote- ja palvelutarjontaa unohtamatta – vuosisatoja vanhaan yhteispohjoismaiseen perinteeseen. Rakenteilla olevaa kansainvälistä Pyhän Olavin vaellusreittiä pitkin Savonlinnasta voi seurata Pyhän Olavin perintöä aina Norjan Trondheimiin saakka viikinkikuninkaan viimeiselle leposijalle.
